Patients first
Every position we take starts with one question: is it right for patients? We support safe, appropriate prescribing and better information for the clinicians who prescribe.

Cannabis-Based Medicines Association
The first trade association dedicated to medical cannabis in the UK, bringing together licensed operators committed to patient safety, evidence and high standards.
Our commitments
Every position we take starts with one question: is it right for patients? We support safe, appropriate prescribing and better information for the clinicians who prescribe.
Voting rights are reserved for UK-licensed companies. The CBMA speaks for businesses that operate within the UK regulatory framework and are accountable to it.
There is not yet enough robust evidence on cannabis-based medicines. We are working with clinics to collect real-world data and build the evidence that patients, prescribers and regulators need.
Our science & evidence workWe are developing shared standards, including a code of conduct, so that patients, clinicians and regulators know what to expect from our members.
Why now?
Eight years on from the 2018 reforms, the UK framework for medical cannabis is under review.
From the Oliver's Law campaign to the Patient Safety Commissioner's warning in October 2026, scrutiny of the sector is increasing.
The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) is reviewing the 2018 rescheduling, with a report expected by the end of 2026. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Care Quality Commission (CQC) and General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) are looking more closely at the sector.
An opportunity for the industry to contribute to these discussions together, with one coordinated voice.
Vision
Our members already operate above the legal floor on the points where higher standards matter most.
Mission
Make that alignment visible to regulators, translate it into actionable workstreams, and act as a structured industry counterparty to public authorities.
Inspiration
Modelled on the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI): four pillars, a code of conduct and a kitemark.
